YOKOSUKA, JAPAN – Ikego Elementary School celebrated its annual STEAM Day with the help of more than 50 amazing volunteers from the military and host nation community.
Students took part in fun, hands-on activities that taught them about science, technology, engineering, art, and math. It was a special day where everyone worked together to help DoDEA students learn, explore and get excited about new ideas.
Yokosuka’s Naval Ship Repair Facility Commander, Captain Wendel Penetrante, opened STEAM Day as keynote speaker. To the delight of students, he also joined in on a fun performance with Ikego’s very own resident magician!
Throughout the day, students visited classrooms and stations where volunteers led exciting STEAM presentations. They explored topics like force and motion in golfing, amazing creatures called nudibranchs, the local endangered fireflies, ballet, taiko drums, and much more!
